DESMOND in Ireland

The DESMOND programme is now firmly established in Ireland. Galway on the West coast, trained their 1st DESMOND educators in 2007. These educators have developed their skills and competences and are now DESMOND trainers and part of the National DESMOND team.

Since 2007 the DESMOND Programme has seen a fast growing expansion of its coverage.
There are 60 trained Educators in Eire covering all the Health Service Executive (HSE) boundaries.

Diabetes care is traditionally delivered through the acute hospitals and offers  'DESMOND as a therapy' as part of diabetes management. This is already having a positive impact in helping to reduce hospital waiting lists.

DESMOND continues to grow as the HSEs are now seeing the benefits that good quality structured education can have on the population.
