Type 2 structured education programme just grows and grows

DESMOND is now the local structured education programme of choice for 70 healthcare organisations across Great Britain and Ireland, for people newly diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. And with an ever-growing ‘waiting-list’ to take up the newly diagnosed module, demand for training is at an all-time high.

There are currently 430 Educators delivering the DESMOND newly diagnosed programme locally to their patients and over 140 of those are now working towards accreditation through the DESMOND quality development framework.

The last 12 months has seen a major expansion of the DESMOND programme beyond England.. It has been established in Galway, Eire, and has continued to grow throughout Scotland with over 40 Educators based in West Lothian and Glasgow. In England we have seen DESMOND being introduced to patients in:

  • Wandsworth, London
  • East and North Hertfordshire
  • Great Yarmouth and Waveney
  • Salisbury, Wiltshire
  • Hartlepool
  • Greenwich, London
  • North Bedfordshire
  • Brighton and Hove through South Downs NHS Trust
  • Calderdale
  • Huddersfield

And initial services have been vastly expanded to reach more patients in both Medway and Haringey PCTs.
