Overview

Rotherham PCT began the DESMOND programme in April 2007 and now offer monthly programmes using the full day format. The course is held at the Diabetes and Education Resource Centre based at Rotherham General Hospital, some however are held in other health centres across Rotherham depending on geographical demand. We are always open to suggestions for new venues, believing the programme should be made easily accessible to everyone.

As from September 2008 the foundation programme will also be available a monthly basis. This course is designed for those people who already have established Type 2 Diabetes.

Please ask your GP, Practice Nurse or other health professional to refer you for the course by fax or telephone 01709 307910 for more information. The current trained DESMOND educators in Rotherham are: Avril Bird, Nicola Cottam and Karen Carnall.

We welcome everyone along and with a warm and friendly approach, and there is no pressure to participate on the day. We also encourage you to invite a partner, friend or relative along with you.

Previous comments from DESMOND participants:

'I found the day very helpful and your friendly attitudes made me feel very settled'

'I feel confident about my condition now and how to actively deal with it'

'I am going to recommend this course to my GP so others get the opportunity'
