Are you thinking about becoming a DESMOND Educator?
Want to become a member of the DESMOND ‘family’?

Having heard of DESMOND, have you ever thought about training to become a DESMOND Educator? Would you like to provide your patients with the best start they deserve in self-managing their diabetes? Becoming a DESMOND Educator couldn’t be easier…

There are already 500 Health Care Professionals (HCPs) trained to deliver the DESMOND newly diagnosed programme. These HCPs come from a wide variety of disciplines; currently some of the roles held by DESMOND Educators are:

  • Diabetes Specialist Nurse
  • Dietitian
  • Community Nurse
  • Nurse Consultant
  • Practice Nurse
  • Podiatrist
  • GP
  • Chronic Disease Management Nurse
  • Cardiovascular Nurse

Further information regarding training for HCPs will shortly be found in the Training section of this website. Keep visiting to have the full picture.

If you are not a health care professional but still interested in training to deliver DESMOND, perhaps our new study on Lay Educators may interest you. Click here to find out more.

The initial 2-day residential training course is just the beginning of your involvement as an Educator. DESMOND provides many opportunities for personal development. Personal and peer reflection, mentoring and assessment are all part of the journey towards accreditation. And for those who relish the challenge, we hope that many of our Educators will go on to take up roles as trainers or assessors themselves – and even participate in our cutting edge research studies.

As some of our Educators say:

“We are delivering DESMOND locally and it’s made me realise that we need to train practice staff in the philosophy and style of the ongoing care planning that
DESMOND commences.”

“It definitely increased my confidence in lots of aspects of my role at work.”
