MyDESMOND revamp goes live

A revamped version of MyDESMOND has been launched with lots of new features.

MyDESMOND version 2 has been redesigned to help improve the patient experience and to further promote self-management.

All DESMOND sites that were signed up to version 1 should now have received administrator log-ins for the new site – if not please let us know via email myDESMOND@uhl-tr.nhs.uk

In order for returning patients to access the site there are a few steps that they need to go through.

Firstly they are asked to email us on mydesmond@uhl-tr.nhs.uk with their preferred email address, the GP practice they are registered to and the county in which they live.

We will then contact the relevant local administrator and then you will need to add the patient to the site so that a new registration code is sent to them.

For those that are not familiar with MyDESMOND it is an online self-management web-application based on our NICE-approved group programme for people newly-diagnosed or with established type 2 diabetes. If you would like to find out more then please email us on myDESMOND@uhl-tr.nhs.uk

As some of you may know nationally money has been set aside for digitally enabled Transformation Funded interventions to support self-management and care for diabetes.

Up to 25 per cent of the Diabetes Treatment and Care Transformation Funding for 2018/19  will be allocated to localities to increase the uptake to structured education.

This could be used to commission products that provide a digitally-enabled approach such as MyDESMOND, by bringing together DESMOND, the award-winning NICE approved structured education programme with a legacy of empowering patients to self-manage their diabetes.

Our latest version of MyDESMOND includes:

  • Educational learning

Evidence based content which follows our proven track record for structure education delivery. Educational content is delivered in bite-size chunks with some available on registration followed by 8-weekly booster sessions.

This has been designed to helps users identify and achieve personal goals linked to the self-management of their diabetes.

And we are really pleased to include the linking of personal wearable technology to our site to allow users to monitor their physical activity levels, alongside their diabetes management.

Experts from the Leicester Diabetes Centre are on hand to support users queries in their health journey.

Another example of the innovative approach we have included in version 2 of MyDESMOND is the inclusion of our ‘buddies’ system allowing user to invite family and friends to be part of your programme and take part in activity challenges as well as see some to learn about diabetes as well.

We hope you will join us in welcoming this great new product the DESMOND family! Please don’t hesitate to contact us on myDESMOND@uhl-tr.nhs.uk with any queries or questions.
